Identify Your Turret

Don't know whether your machine takes a BMT or a VDI tool holder, or what size? Here's how to find out without pulling anything apart.

1. Start with the machine itself

The builder and model on the machine's nameplate is the fastest route to an answer — look your model up in our machine finder and we'll show you exactly what fits, interface and all, without you needing to know the terminology first.

2. Look at the turret face

  • Flat face, tool holder bolts on flush — that's a BMT-style (face-coupling) turret. Read BMT vs VDI for the range of sizes.
  • Round bore, tool holder's round shank drops in and is clamped — that's a VDI-style (cylindrical-shank) turret.

3. Check an existing tool holder, if you have one

A size or interface marking stamped on the holder itself (or on its datasheet, if you kept it) will usually confirm which family and size you're dealing with.

4. Still not sure?

Send us a photo of the turret and the machine's builder and model, and an engineer will confirm the interface for you — no charge, no obligation.
